SOLVANG, Calif. - Residents were told to shelter in place Saturday night in Solvang after a bear was spotted roaming around the heart of town.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office said the bear was located in the 1600 block of Mission, which is also Highway 246 through Solvang.

Deputies said the bear was cornered and Fish and Wildlife officers were on scene as of 10:05 p.m.

An emergency alert was sent to the community just before 10 p.m. Saturday, urging people to shelter in place because of "a dangerous animal in the area of downtown Solvang."

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department lifted the shelter in place order at 11:21 p.m.
