MONTECITO, Calif.

Birds of prey are helping a local resort keep nesting birds at bay.

Guests at the Rosewood Miramar Beach in Montecito are welcome to talk to a falconer handling a hawk at the resort.

The Mramar hired Adam' Falconry Service to deter seagulls and crows from nesting.

If the birds nest around the new resort they can become a nuisance and leave behind a daily mess.

Veonte Barnes of Adam's Falconry Service, said "It works because he is a predator and they are prey."

Barnes makes it look easy.

"This is Crimson my year-and-a-half old Harris Hawk and we make a pretty good team up here."

Barnes of Oxnard works with Crimson daily and during breaks the hawk wears a hood, but it is taken off when the hawk flies from place to place.
He often gets rewarded with treats in return for his work.
