Direct Relief sends aid to help Puerto Rico after earthquakes
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Puerto Rico is in a state of emergency, one day after the most powerful earthquake in more than a century. With a magnitude of a 6.4 earthquake.
Hundreds of residents are homeless and more than half a million are without power.
One local aid organization, Direct Relief is sending help to those in Puerto Rico. They are mobilizing assistance for the island.
Direct Relief is offering support to Puerto Rico's health care provider. They are sending life-saving medicines and supplies.
"essential medications… power options .. backup battery options," said Leighton Jones, Director of U.S. Emergency Management.
The shipment was sent to Puerto Rico today.
