Caltrans to close Highway 1 in both directions near Ragged Point

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. - Drivers may come across road closures this week along a stretch of Highway 1 north of San Simeon.

Caltrans is closing the highway in both directions in the area about two miles south of Ragged Point.

The closure begins at 9 p.m. Thursday and lasts through 5 a.m. Friday.

The closure extends from the traffic signals that are already in place between San Carpoforo Creek Bridge and Ragged Point.

People who live in the area will still be able to get through as long as there is no heavy equipment on the highway.

Drivers are asked to plan for delays of up to one hour.

Caltrans says it needs to close the highway completely so it can install beams as part of a project to build a viaduct and retaining wall along the highway.

The $4.1 million project is expected to be done by Spring 2020.
