VENTURA, Calif. - People in Ventura may notice a helicopter flying around the community, but police say it's not crime-related.

The Ventura Police Department tweeted Wednesday morning, saying a Southern California Edison helicopter was flying around the city.

Police said SoCal Edison was conducting aerial inspections.

The tweet said there was no police activity requiring a helicopter at the time.

The utility regularly uses helicopters to check its electrical equipment, especially in high fire risk areas.

According to the company's website, aerial inspections use special infrared cameras that can detect issues in equipment.
