A man who police say attempted to steal a vehicle and was later involved in a hit-and-run was taken into custody Wednesday.

Atascadero police said Thursday that they had arrested Joshua Steven Meyer, 32, of Ridgecrest.

Police say he attempted to steal a vehicle from someone’s driveway in the 8400 block of Del Rio Road on Tuesday. Officers say the owner of the vehicle confronted Meyer, who then drove away in the vehicle, but ended up crashing with another driver on Del Rio. That other person was injured.

Police say Meyer then tried to drive away from the crash, but collided with a tree.

At that point, officers say witnesses confronted Meyer, but he pointed a handgun and drove away in a different vehicle that was waiting in the area for the suspect.

Meyer was arrested in Paso Robles on Wednesday after a follow-up investigation. He was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle, hit-and-run with injury, assault with a deadly weapon, and for having outstanding arrest warrants.

Police say while they were originally searching for Meyer, they found an unrelated vehicle that was parked at an abandoned home. Police contacted the people in the car and found a loaded handgun, loaded shotgun, and narcotics. Officers arrested Kyle Kenneth Hogue, 32, of Paso Robles and Kendelle Dawn Montez, 27, of Atascadero. They both face charges including possession of a loaded firearm, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
