Robbery suspect arrested after short pursuit in Ventura
A suspect was arrested after he attempted to flee the scene of an armed robbery in Ventura early Sunday morning.
At around 2:00 a.m., officers responded to a report of a fight that had broken out near the are of El Medio Street and Ventura Avenue.
Witnesses reported seeing two men jump out of a car and attack the victim. When officers arrived, one of the suspects got back into the car and attempted to flee the area.
The suspect later parked the car and fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit officers were able to take the suspect into custody.
That suspect has been identified as William Marin, 27, of Ventura. Marin is associated to the Ventura Avenue Street gang and it was determined that the crime was gang related.
During the investigation, officers learned the victim and a witness were standing together in a driveway when Marin and the second suspect pulled up, exited the vehicle and demanded the victim’s property. When the victim refused, both subjects attacked him, striking and kicking him. The victim attempted to defend himself, but the suspects were able to grab the victim’s property.
Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the second suspect.
The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Marin was arrested and faces possible charges for Robbery with Gang Enhancements as well as Resisting Arrest.
