“Fun with the Force” fundraiser helps Santa Barbara Police

An impressive crowd of over 650 came out to support the Santa Barbara Police department at an event called “Fun with the Force.”

One of the most popular demonstrations involved a K-9 “Jake” chasing down a simulated criminal, by bursting out of a patrol car and pouncing on the suspect within seconds.

There was also a SWAT team demonstration where a door was broken down and a mock suspect was apprehended.

Thousands of dollars in funds were raised through donations and a live auction.

Some of the items on the bidding list included a day with the SWAT team, private dinners with a top local chef, and a weekend in a private home in the Russian River area of California wine country.

Actor Billy Baldwin co hosted the event.

Chief Lori Luhnow spoke to the crowd and thanked them for the support at a time when law enforcement agencies across the country are challenged.

Money raised at the event will help with gear for the K-9 team, SWAT and front line officers.

The Police Foundation is also going to benefit. It supports officers with personal or professional issues beyond their own finances.

Last year the event helped to buy special fire jackets for officers who have to evacuate residents in wildland emergencies.

More than a dozen local restaurants provided food and drink for the event held at a private polo field in Summerland.

Many officers were in attendance and sat with the supporters at various tables.
