Direct Relief Raises Airlift Funds

Direct Relief will be trucking pallets full of medical supplies to a chartered cargo plane on the tarmac in Texas Friday.

The plane will take off Monday and arrive in Liberia on Tuesday.

The supplies requested by medical workers include more than two million pairs of rubber gloves, needles, gowns, and even body bags.

West Africa is dealing with the world’s deadliest Ebola epidemic.

Direct Relief said medical responders on the front lines need personal protective equipment to stay healthy while saving lives.

Some planes have been cancelled to prevent the spread of Ebola to other countries in Africa.

There is no known cure for the virus that is spread through bodily fluids.

Ebola attacks organs and blood vessels.

Experts said it is so contagious that people touching their loved ones during burial rituals can get sick.

Fundraising is underway to send another cargo plane full of medical supplies in the near future.
