Fiesta Carriage Included in Upcoming Los Angeles Equestrian Event

A special equestrian event in Los Angeles this weekend will include a carriage from Santa Barbara’s Old Spanish Days.

The Tournament of Roses Equestfest, will be held at the L.A. Equestrian Center.

El Presidente Dennis Rickard says many of the entries in this event will be in the upcoming Rose Parade on New Year’s Day in Pasadena. He hopes to meet with parade leaders and encourage them to include Old Spanish Days in the parade, possibly as soon as next year.

In 1949, Rickard’s father was the El Presidente and included the Tournament of Roses Marching Band in Santa Barbara’s Old Spanish Days parade as the first entry.

The entry is a flowered wagon of carrying six Old Spanish Days members in costume lead by a team of four Belgian Draft horses, flanked by eight dancers in white dresses depicting the Spirits of Fiesta with the husband and wife of the De La Guerra Wedding party on horseback behind the wagon.

Rickard says the upcoming equestrian event entry was made possible in part with Fiesta sponsors including Union Bank,Santa Barbara Airbus, Santa Barbara County Flower and Nursery Growers Association and Florabundance.
