Truck plunges off cliff onto beach below

Pismo Beach Police released the name of a man who died Tuesday night after his pickup truck plunged 200 feet off a cliff and into the ocean below. 33-year-old Sean Ramirez died in the crash.

Cal Fire SLO San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s investigators and Pismo Beach police are trying to figure out why Ramirez’s truck seemed to be out of control. Witnesses called 911 moments before the crash complaining about a reckless driver in a truck with New Mexico license plates.

Minutes later, just before 6 p.m. Tuesday, Ramirez’s truck flew off the cliff at the Best Western Shelter Hotel.

Cal Fire SLO reported the truck hit the beach and was partially submerged in the surf. Firefighters repelled down to the crash site and performed CPR on Ramirez but he died at the scene.

Pismo Beach police brought in a tow truck to lift the mangled pickup back up.
