Immigration reform rallies draw thousands across the country

Immigration reform is front and center again. Thousands of people joined rallies in at least 18 states to press Congress for comprehensive immigration legislation. Crowds gathered from Washington, D.C., to Los Angeles fighting for the 11-million undocumentedimmigrants looking for a path toward citizenship.

A bi-partisan group of senators known as the “gang of eight”is expected to introduce immigration reform legislation by the end of the week. Groups opposed to illegal immigration say they’re not worried that these emotional messages will sway lawmakers. They argue that extending legal rights to immigrants living illegally in the U.S. will create financial problems for governments already struggling.

Agroup of supporters are holding a rally in Santa Barbara at Trinity Episcopal Church on May 1 at 6 p.m.
