Famous Rincon Classic surfing event is on for this weekend

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. - One of the most famous surfing events in Southern California is taking place this weekend at Rincon Point in Ventura County.

The Rincon Classic will be held Saturday and Sunday.

The announcement is based on specific weather conditions and they were identified this morning followed by the posting of the event.

About 200 participants usually take part.   They range from boys and girls to adults of all ages.  Both professional and amateurs are in the lineups.

The conditions are being monitored in coordination with the National Weather Service office in Oxnard nearby.

The Rincon is one of the most significant surfing spots in Southern California and has rich history dating back decades to the original days of the sport.

World champions have started their ascent here.
