Thousands participate in the 2024 Santa Barbara Half Marathon & 5K
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - People from all over the country participated in the Santa Barbara Half Marathon & 5K Sunday morning.
More than 5 thousand people from 46 different states and 24 different countries participated in the annual event.
More than $50,000 was raised for the Santa Barbara Running Association's Youth Programs and other local organizations.
For some participants, this was their first marathon.
"Yeah, something that I've never done before," said Dimitri Tiron. "It was a great time, it was so fun, first race ever for all of us and it was it was awesome."
About 50 visually impaired runners and their guides participated.
"So I love to go out as a blind person," said Rosa Calderon, a blind participant. "We always feel limited, but doing things like this and going out there really gets us going. We're able to just be free, to move in a space."
Chris Frias of Ventura won the Half Marathon clocking in at 1 hour, 8 minutes, and 33 seconds.
The oldest finisher was an 82-year old from Santa Barbara.
