Rainbow crosswalks painted in Los Olivos for Pride Month

LOS OLIVOS, Calif – Rainbow crosswalks were painted in Los Olivos near Grand Avenue and Alamo Pintado Avenue. This is in honor of Pride Month.

According to The Rainbow House Inc., a local business in the community, a crew started to paint the crosswalks at around five in the morning Tuesday. It took the painters about 5 hours to get it done.

"Seeing things like this in small communities makes a huge difference for the people looking in," said The Rainbow House Inc.'s Instagram page. "It impacts those who are in the community that are looking for a place of acceptance, not just tolerance."

The co-founders of the non-profit organization The Rainbow House Inc. said these crosswalks show how a community can come together, and really demonstrate how accepted they are.

“To me, being part of the gay community, it means the world to me that I'm being recognized,” said co-owner of the non-profit Kyle Cavalli. “That I’m seen and heard, I've understood and I'm welcomed.”

The symbolism of the pride flag is something that goes all the way back to the first pride events that were actually riots as a demonstration than anything else.

The Rainbow House Inc. said to have that rainbow flag on display in the Santa Ynez Valley is such a unique and special thing.
