Central Coast residents react to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s idea to relief California’s high gas prices

NIPOMO, Calif. – During Tuesday's State of State address, Gov. Gavin Newsom said he will be working with legislative leadership to submit a proposal that will relief Californians from high gas prices.

Residents in Nipomo are seeing gas prices at an all time high.

“I don’t want to fill it up twice- twice a week," said resident John Mejia. "That’s gonna suck.”

According to AAA, California's gas price average is at $5.57 a gallon, which is the highest record gas price average.

In Santa Barbara County, the average gas price is at $5.54, and it's $5.72 in San Luis Obispo County.

Relief is in the works.

Governor Gavin Newsom made an announcement during Tuesday night’s State of the State address.

“In January, we proposed a pause to the gas tax increase. Now it is clear, we have to go farther,” said Gov. Gavin Newsom. “And that’s working with legislative leadership. I'll be submitting a proposal to put money back in the pockets of Californians to address rising gas prices.”

This relief is something residents in the community have been hoping for.

“We hope it goes back to normal again," said Owner of Stop N' Buy George Ghazaly. "So people can go back to the normal life.

“I hope it goes down," said Mejia.
