Look for the Helpers: Lemonade for zoo animals, Iron Chef feeds front line workers
As our area is faced with ongoing changes due to a growing pandemic, we are bringing stories of people doing good in the community during a time of uncertainty.
Help us look for the helpers!
When Life Gives You Lemons
Two young girls made a sweet donation to the Santa Barbara Zoo.
They set up a lemonade stand and gave all of the profits to help zoo animals.
The zoo has been forced to close because of COVID-19 and has lost most of the revenue it normally gets from visitors.
Drive-by Blessings
Priests from the Santa Barbara Mission formed a caravan to bless people in the community.
According to Father Larry Gosselin, priests paid a visit to several families of young people who were supposed to receive their first communion on Sunday.
The priests did not give out communion, but instead blessed the families and gave them gifts.
The priests were also carrying signs that read, "You are beautiful," "God bless families," and "The Friars miss y'all."
During the visits, the priests wore masks and maintained a physical distance.
Iron Chef Gives Back
Iron Chef and local resident Cat Cora is feeding workers and health care heroes on the front lines of COVID-19.
Cora owns Mesa Burger in Santa Barbara and is delivering meals to local hospitals, gas stations, banks and grocery stores.
She's donated more than 100 meals so far.
Cora said, "We are all in this together."
