Look for the Helpers: teen tutors, drive-by photography

As our area is faced with ongoing changes due to a growing pandemic, we are bringing stories of people doing good in the community during a time of uncertainty.

Look for the helpers.

Online Tutoring

A Dos Pueblos High School student spent her entire spring break working on an online tutoring site to help her peers.

Chloe Harrah, a junior at DPHS, created a website called Charger Academy where students can turn to for one-on-one peer tutoring.

Harrah said she knew students like her would have concerns about the transition to remote learning because of COVID-19.

Hundreds of high school students at DPHS rely on tutors for help with challenging subjects.

Charger Academy offers tutors for all core subjects. All tutoring sessions are booked and conducted online.

The hope is that the website will eventually be utilized by the entire district.

Drive-by Photo Shoot

A San Luis Obispo photographer is using social distancing to document this time in our history.

Samantha Josette did what she called a "drive-by photo shoot" in San Luis Obispo County.

Josette drove by 19 different location and captured photos and videos of how families and couples are spending their time at home.

Josette said she stayed in her car the entire time.

All of the people she photographed messaged her after to tell her they were so grateful to have something to look forward to and a reason to get all dressed up.

You can watch the entire video on Josette's Instagram page.
