OXNARD, Calif. - Pacifica High School became Ventura County's first public school to win a State football championship after a victory over Oakland-McClymonds last Saturday.

The championship win took place at the CIF Division 2-A State championship bowl at Cerritos College where Pacifica won 34-6.

In response to this impressive achievement, the Oxnard community has planned several celebratory events throughout the city this week.

If you want to join in the celebration of the Tritons' win, you can attend any of the following events:

On Tuesday at 5 p.m., the Pacifica High players and coaches will be honored by the Oxnard City Council at their City Council Meeting. The meeting will take place in the Council Chambers located at 305 West Third Street.

On Wednesday, the high school is planning to celebrate their team's win with a student pep rally. The rally will be attended by local elected officials and Oxnard City representatives who want to join in on the celebration.

Later on Wednesday, starting at 4:30 p.m., Oxnard is throwing a championship procession where Oxnard police and fire personnel will personally escort the winning team from Pacifica High School to the Oxnard Union High School District.

When they reach the end, the Tritons will attend a District Board meeting where they will be recognized by the School Board.

The procession will go through several neighborhoods including: East Village, Colonia, Rose Park, Wilson, Carriage Square, and Fremont South.

Anyone is invited to come out and cheer on the champions as they pass by.
