Traffic stalled on Highway 101 North at Dulah following fatal traffic collision

VENTURA, Calif.– CHP closed Highway 101 north, south of San Miguelito intermittently for several hours following a fatal five-car traffic collision around 9:30 a.m. Monday morning.

CHP Ventura reports the driver of a 2012 Ford F-550 collided with the rear of a 2002 Toyota Tacoma causing the Tacoma to collide with the back of a Tesla, the Tesla to collide with the Honda HR-V, and the Honda HR-V, to collide with the Honda Accord.

One car caught fire, but is unclear in the CHP collision report which exact vehicle was engulfed in flames.

The 50-year-old driver of the Tacoma, Jose A. Zarate, was pronounced dead on the scene, while two parties were transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

This incident is still under investigation by the CHP Ventura Area office. Anyone who witnessed or has any information regarding this incident is asked to contact the CHP Ventura Area office at (805)662-2640.

Multiple personnel from the CHP Ventura Area, along with personnel from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, and Ventura County Fire Department responded to the crash.
