‘Lobster Jo’s Beach Camp’ added to summer choices for kids around Santa Barbara
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – A UC Santa Barbara student has put together a summer camp he says will be fun and educational at the waterfront everyday.
It's called Lobster Jo's Beach camp.
Joseph Evers got the nickname Lobster Jo because he would free dive for lobsters and cook them for his friends.
He saw a need for a summer camp that had a range of activities kids would do at the beach from paddle boarding to art projects.
The city liked the idea and a camp was created.
It begins next Monday, June 14 and is open for ages 5 to 17.
"I started this camp with the idea of being on the beach every day and teaching kids fun things they can do on the beach everyday, whether it be surfing or doing some art on the beach or making some earrings out of sea glass," Evers said.
The camp counselors are all UC Santa Barbara students and have been certified in CPR and First Aid.
Many of the activities are created from activities the students did when they were kids at the beach.
Evers says kids don't need to know how to swim to be in the camp. Swimming basics will be taught for those interested.
The camp will be held at East Beach. It runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
