SLO Women’s Honor Farm brings in kittens as part of new pilot program

Inmates at the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office Women’s Honor Farm are giving back to the community.

The female inmates at the Honor Farm are fostering kittens as part of a new pilot program.

The kittens are between four and five weeks old and are brought over from San Luis Obispo County Animal Services.

The inmates are responsible for feeding and caring for the kittens until they are old enough to be adopted. Once a kitten is adopted, another kitten will be brought in to be cared for.

The sheriff’s department says the program instills a sense of responsibility and gives inmates a chance to give back to the community.

This isn’t the first time that inmates at the Women’s Honor Farm have given back to the community. In April, inmates enrolled in the Honor Farm sewing program donated handmade quilts, bibs, soft toys and infant clothing to Pregnancy and Parenting Support of San Luis Obispo County. The sewing program has sewn together thousands of items for charitable donations including afghans, capes for children with cancer, and teddy bears.
