Port San Luis reopens boat launch with strict physical distancing rules
It's another sign of a possible return to normal for recreational boaters at Port San Luis. The sport launch facility reopened Friday morning on a trial basis and with strict new rules in place amid COVID-19 public health guidelines.
"We're going to be following social distancing and anyone outside their vehicle has to have a mask before they launch," said Harbor Manager Andrea Lueker.
To follow physical distancing guidelines the parking lot will be limited to 30 vehcicles and trailers per day and no overnight parking will be allowed. The fish cleaning station remains closed. The Sport Launch Strore will be open, but limited to one person at a time.
Despite all the rules, reopening came as great news to commercial, sport and recreational fishermen and boaters who need and want to get back on the water.
"Guys got to get back to normal, we gotta get some kind of normalcy," said commercial fisherman Mike Limon. "All these golf courses are open, recreational fishing should be open too."
Port San Luis says if the rules are not followed Harbor District will shutdown the sports launch facility again.
