Some homeowners go all out for Halloween
SANTA BARBARA, Calif.-Gio Campanella recommends driving down Shoreline Dr. to check out one of the best haunted houses around.
The Santa Barbara mail carrier, who loves Halloween, seems to know all of the haunted locations.
Volunteers arrived after school to decorate the Gamble Ficker home that had a haunted house hidden behind black plastic in the driveway.
Jen Gamble took charge.
The mother of 3, operates Lights Up! Theatre Company for teen actors.
Some of her actors performed inside the haunted house on Halloween night.
Kids lined up to enter the house that included a hall of mirrors, hanging dolls, dried ice, a chainsaw room, an area full of spots and a piano that played by itself.
"Sometimes I wonder actually is it for more or is it for the kids," said Gamble.
Her own children and their friends know how to scream.
Her son hid in a frieghtening looking fridge that opened up for scary treats.
Other people stopped by to see the movie inspired decorations along Clearview Road.
Erin and Ed Cavzos said their grown children and their friends chose the Barbie Screamhouse theme.
It had a crashed Barbie convertible with an Oppenheimer bomb glowing in the trunk.
"Everyone is telling us it is over the top and they haven't seen anything like it before," said Erin who is a preschool teacher.
"I like the glowing thing and atom bomb, I kind of dig that," said Ed.
Michael Hardoin didn't even try to compete by decorating his house, next door, but he did give out more than $100 worth of full size M&M's.
"When you see the kids eyes light up- full size candy- it is the greatest thing in the world," said Hardoin.
The cancer survivor said he has seven grandfather who enjoy his treats.
The memories made on Halloween are sure to last longer than the candy.
