Ventura County Fire Department crews survey damage following stormy weekend

VENTURA, Calif. - The Ventura County Fire Department has crews surveying the area in the aftermath of this weekend's storm.

Fire crews have been busy before, during and after this weekend’s storm across Ventura County.

"It was a little bit busy yeah it was busy for a midsummer timeframe," said said captain Bill McGrath of the Ventura County Fire Department.

The Ventura county fire department boosted its staff in order to ensure everyone’s safety in light of this weekend’s storm.

"Every single fire fighter, captain engineer, Chief has been working really hard and hours so that way we have more boots on the ground to provide aid to the county," said firefighter Brian Proett of the Ventura County Fire Department.

This week fire crews are surveying several potentially hazardous areas in the aftermath of the storm.

"We are really happy with the community. Everyone did really good job at Aaron for the storms. There were some areas that still had flooding as well as downed trees and some down powerlines," said McGrath.

"Fire crews said they will be spending the rest of the week surveying areas most damage by the severe weather.

"We had a couple homes are in Simi Valley. They were had some damage as well as Camarillo, Camarillo Heights, as well as some in the upper Ojai," said McGrath.

Fire crews are also checking out areas that flooded during the last storm.

"As we want to make sure that the work that we had done to the area, we’re still working right as well as responding to new flooding calls. But we’re still gonna be out there working helping our partners at public works making sure the roads are open and cleared as well as any kind of drainage is and doing searches of river bottoms and water ways to make sure we didn’t miss anything," said McGrath.

The agency increased its staffing in order to meet the needs of the community during the storm.
