McNish Classic Yacht Race sets sail off the coast of Oxnard

OXNARD, Calif.-The McNish Classic Yacht Race celebrated its 46th competition this weekend.

The race's namesake Dick McNish owns the sailboat Cheerio II, once owned by actor Errol Flynn.

His son took his place in the race on Saturday.

The first to finish Strathmore Cup went to Distant Star.

As part of the race's tradition Distant Star's Captain Chris Frost won his weight in champagne.

Wooden ships from yacht clubs up and down the coast took part in the race hosted annually by the Pacific Corinthian Yacht Club in the Channel Islands Harbor.

The marine layer made it tough to see from shore at first, but the sun eventually came out.

The 100 year old sailing vessel Astor sailed by Richard Strahan and his crew came in first in Schooners and won the Bristol Boat.

Paul Scripps on the Miramar won best elapsed time and CF Kolher of sailing vessel Sally came in first in sloops.
