SB Humane has tips for pet owners following July 4th festivities

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.— Fourth of July might be over, but animal experts still want to emphasize pet safety this summer.

Santa Barbara Humane has some tips on how we can best protect our furry friends.

These include things like microchipping, behavioral pet therapy, weighted jackets, and sedatives.

Experts at SB Humane say that loud noises like fireworks can be incredibly startling and traumatic for our pets, no matter how big or small they are.

SB Humane took extra precautions to make sure the animals at the shelter would be safe and sound.

“We actually give a little bit of sedation to all of our animals here. So we check them night before our veterinary team, our behavior team, our animal care staff, and the next morning and everybody did fantastic. So I'm very happy and I hope everyone else's pet out there did really well during 4th of July”, said SB Humane CEO Kerri Burns.

Organizations like Santa Barbara Humane and C.A.R.E. 4 Paws are currently offering microchipping at a low cost.

And for those who are looking for a lost pet, apps like Next Door can be a useful tool to help pet owners reunite with their missing fur babies.
