Santa Maria man arrested for weapons violations on Wednesday
SANTA MARIA, Calif. – Santa Maria Police Department (SMPD) arrested a 19-year-old Santa Maria resident on Wednesday in relation to an ongoing investigation of a fight involving a firearm on Jun. 24.
On Wednesday, around 11:45 p.m., Santa Maria Police Department Detective Bureau and Santa Maria Police Department SWAT Team served a search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of South Oakley Street where the 19-year-old was taken into custody detail SMPD.
The 19-year-old was arrested and booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and a gang enhancement.
The warrant was tied to a call on Jun. 24 around 1:48 a.m. where SMPD officers were called to a business in the 1000 block of E. Main Street for reports of two groups fighting with one person armed.
According to SMPD, arriving officers determined the identity of the person with a firearm to be the 19-year-old arrested on Wednesday after they had fled the scene of the fight.
The 19-year-old is currently out on bail after being arrested in connection with a shooting and attempted robbery near Thornburg and Hermosa Streets on Oct. 24, 2022.
