Santa Maria has two emergency shelters open and multiple road closures due to heavy rain
SANTA MARIA, Calif. – The City of Santa Maria urges residents to shelter-in-place during ongoing rainstorms expected to continue into Jan. 10, but the city is not issuing evacuation orders as they continue to monitor the situation.
There are two emergency shelters available for those unable to get home or in need of a dry place until 10 p.m. the Atkinson Community Center at 1000 North Railroad Ave. and Minami Community Center at 600 West Enos Dr.
The following city streets remain closed:
Along the City’s west side, Blosser Road is closed from Rancho Verde to Hidden
Pines, and Canal Street from Riverton to Blosser Road,
• Thornburg Street from Lolita Lane to Sonya Lane,
• Daniel Drive from McClelland Street to Miller Street ,
• McClelland Street from Daniel Drive to Inger Drive,
• Centerpointe from Southside Parkway to Cielo,
• Sonya Lane from Thornburg Street to Depot Street
• Dejoy Street from Jewel Street to Kensington Avenue,
• Williams Street from Russell Avenue to Dejoy Street,
• Black Road from Betteravia Road to Main Street (Highway 166).
• Jones from Bradley Road to Suey Road,
• Suey Road from Main Street to Jones,
• To protect the Hancock Park neighborhood near Marian Medical Center from street
flooding, the Department of Public Works placed two temporary dams called a “muscle
wall” on East Jones Street and Farrell Drive and Marian Drive, and at Marian and
Jones. A muscle wall is a tough plastic barrier filled with water and connected by
sections to form a temporary dam.
