SLO Public Health Department issues rain advisory following Tuesday showers
CENTRAL COAST, Calif. – San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County Public Health Departments issued an advisory to the public to avoid contact with ocean water for the next three days.
Significant rainstorms cause rain runoff into our oceans and waterways, bringing with it risks of skin, respiratory and intestinal problems, especially for vulnerable populations like children and the elderly.
There is also an Ocean Water Monitoring Program hotline at 805-788-3411.
The highest levels of pathogens that can make you sick are found in areas close to runoff outlets like storm drains and creeks.

Rainstorm runoff can transport high levels of bacteria, viruses and protozoa from the urban areas to the ocean. Avoid waterborne pathogens by avoiding ocean water contact during and at least three days following significant rainstorms. Beach water quality: https://t.co/EYzOYibxrx pic.twitter.com/FEISAJnffp
