SLO Sheriff’s Office warn residents of circulating phone scam
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.– San Luis Obispo deputies are warning the public to be on the lookout and cautious about the comeback of an old phone scam trying to con residents out of money.
Scammers use the SLO Sheriff's Office Caller ID to call residents about outstanding warrants for failing to appear for jury duty that they must pay to clear via a prepaid debit card. In one case, scammers received $5,000 from an unaware SLO resident.
SLO Sheriff's want to remind the community that it is not standard practice for law enforcement or the county courts to call by phone regarding these types of situations.
If you receive a call report it to local law enforcement and spread the word to family and friends to prepare for a possible call.
