Cayucos House Fire Causes $200,000 in Damages

Cayucos firefighters, with assistance from neighboring fire agencies, launched an aggressive attack on a house fire that broke out just before 2 a.m. Thursday in the 3200 block of Shearer Avenue, and stopped the blaze before it could cause further damage.

Cayucos Fire Capt. Mark Walton says neighbors reported smelling smoke coming from the house as early as 9 p.m. the night before, “Meaning the fire smoldered for hours, heating up and charging the house with smoke.”

Firefighters contained the house fire within 15 minutes of arrival, but heavy smoke had already caused $200,000 in damages, says Walton.

The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire and is used as a vacation home, according to Walton.

No injuries were reported due to the blaze, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
