Mother, son found guilty in Dystiny Myers’ murder

Jurors in the Dystiny Myers murder trial have reached a verdict in the San Luis Obispo criminal trial after less thanseven hours of deliberations.

Defendants Rhonda Wisto and her son, Jacob York, were both found guilty on all charges, including first-degree murder, as well as special circumstances of kidnapping and torture.

They face 25 years to life in prison, with no opportunity for parole, because of those special circumstances.

The two defendants were among a group of five people charged with the brutal murder of the 15-year-old Orcutt teen back in 2010, Myers was killed in Wisto’s Nipomo home.

Prosecutors built their case around eyewitness testimony that detailed rampant drug use, abusive treatment of Myers, who was a runaway, and meth-fueled violence that left her dead.

Prosecutors argued that Wisto ordered Myer’s death because the teen had been disrespected to the older woman. Three others have already pleaded guilty to the crime.

Sentencing for Wisto and York is set for May 8.
