Foresters golf tournament returns to support Hugs for Cubs
GOLETA, Calif. - The Santa Barbara Foresters are still weeks away from a return to the baseball diamond, but the team held its annual golf tournament on Saturday to raise money for Hugs for Cubs.
The Foresters' year-long program supports children who are being treated for cancer and other serious illnesses.
About 130 golfers played the tournament at Glen Annie Golf Club in Goleta, with groups playing 18 holes and facing off in competitions such as longest drive, lowest score and highest score.
Foresters manager Bill Pintard and former Angels manager Mike Scioscia were among the golfers who played.
Raffle and auction items included signed memorabilia from New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge and former Forester and current Kansas City Royals first baseman Ryan O'Hearn. All proceeds went to Hugs for Cubs.
Scioscia won a TV in the tournament raffle but donated it back so the Foresters could make more money for Hugs for Cubs.
The annual golf tournament is usually scheduled for November each year but was the 2020 edition was delayed due to the pandemic. Foresters Board President Christina Songer says another tournament is planned for this November.
