Ventura College placed on lockdown as police search for homicide suspect
VENTURA, Calif. - Ventura College was placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon as campus police searched for a homicide suspect.
According to the Ventura County Community College District's police department, police were searching throughout the area for a homicide suspect.
People on campus were told to shelter in place and lock doors. Anyone off campus was advised to stay away from the area.
A campus alert sent to students and faculty said a suspect wanted on multiple felonies was near the college grounds.
The suspect was described as a white man, standing 6-foot-1, and weighing 200 pounds. He was seen wearing a navy blue jacket, maroon pants and black sneakers. The alert also said the man was armed and dangerous and walked with a limp.
VCCCD Police Department later confirmed that the suspect in questions was a homicide suspect wanted out of San Diego.
The lockdown was eventually lifted and a suspect was not arrested, according to an update provided by the VCCCD Police Department. Police will be patrolling the area throughout the evening.
Ventura College is located at 4667 Telegraph Rd. in Ventura.
