Goleta teams up with Equalitech to improve census response
GOLETA, Calif. -- The city of Goleta's goal is to have everyone fill out the 2020 census and the nonprofit Equalitech has signed on to help.
The tech center located behind the Goleta Valley Community Center is open from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays to help people fill out their 2020 Census online.
Danny Fitzgibbons said people shouldn't worry about the information.
"Definitely, you don't have to be worried about filling out the census because your info is not given to anybody, " said Fitzgibbons.
Goleta Community Relations Manager Kelly Hoover said the deadline is just two weeks away.
"Twenty-five percent of Goleta households still have not responded to the census and that means millions of lost revenue over the next 10 years, so we are hoping in these last days to really reach everyone and have everyone counted," said Hoover.
She said so far about 76 percent of the community has responded, a bit more than during the 2010 census, and more than many neighboring communities.
Unless there is an extension the deadline is Sept. 30.
