SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Santa Barbara Zoo has announced a date for reopening: June 23.

The zoo has been closed since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on non-essential businesses.

As Santa Barbara County progresses further into the state's reopening plan, Santa Barbara Zoo has been permitted to reopen as long as additional safety precautions are taken.

The zoo will reopen to the public on June 23 but guests will have to book a reservation ahead of time.

A soft opening will be held for members only from June 20-22. Zoo staff will use this soft opening to identify heavily trafficked spot and areas for safety improvement. Members will have to book a reservation ahead of time as well.

For a list of safety precautions the zoo is taking, visit their website.
