Orcutt Academy High School prepares for drive-in graduation
ORCUTT, Calif. -- Orcutt Academy High School is preparing for their drive-in graduation on June 5.
The High School recently finalized their plans for a drive-in graduation for the Class of 2020.
The ceremony will be on the evening of June 5.
The High School plans for graduates and their families to park their cars on the school's field that will be set up as a drive-in theater. The ceremony's audio will be carried through broadcast to each car's radio.
At 8:15 p.m., staff will show a specially produced graduation video that will include the awarding of diplomas, speeches by the school's valedictorian and salutatorian along with other student presentations.
The graduation video will be filmed before the ceremony. The filming will be by individual appointment.
Orcutt Academy High School Principal gave the following statement on this alternative event:
“This year’s graduation is going to be epic. It will be one of a kind, and something that has not been done before at our school. The students are excited about it. When we talked to them about options, they wanted to do a drive-in graduation.”

The High School will implement social distancing protocols during the graduation event. Some of the protocols include all participants staying inside their own cars, each graduate is allowed one vehicle, vehicles must maintain a minimum of 6 feet from other cars, all persons must remain in the car at all times and no restrooms will be available during the event.
Members of the OAHS Class of 2020 will be provided additional information about the graduation event in the days to come.
