Santa Barbara County nonprofits working to help isolated seniors
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - Nonprofit organizations throughout Santa Barbara County are working together to make sure the needs of isolated seniors are met during the COVID-19 crisis.
The nonprofits are collaborating to identify seniors who may be on their own and helping them connect with critical services like food and supplies.
The organizations working together include Family Service Agency (FSA) of Santa Barbara County, the Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens, Center for Successful Aging, Community Action Commission, Carpinteria Children’s Project, Community Partners in Caring, Cuyama Valley Family Resource Center, Lompoc Valley Medical Center, Lompoc Valley Community Healthcare Organization, and Santa Ynez Valley People Helping People.
“During California’s stay at home order, older Californians rely on friends and neighbors to help them obtain basic necessities like groceries and prescriptions,” said FSA’s Executive Director Lisa Brabo in a news release.
The initiative was kicked off thanks to donations from the James S. Bower Foundation, Wood-Claeyssens Foundation, and an anonymous donor. Additional funding from the Zegar Family Foundation has also contributed.
If you or someone you know needs assistance, call the Senior Connection at 805-925-9554.
“We are here to help those who might otherwise not have a consistent safety net of support to receive needed food and supplies,” Brabo said.
If you are interested in making a donation, contact Family Service Agency at 805-965-1001 ext. 256 or visit FSAcares.org.
