Looking for the Helpers: Iron Chef brings comfort from her kitchen, virtual hair care

As our area is faced with ongoing changes due to a growing pandemic, we are bringing stories of people doing good in the community during a time of uncertainty.

Iron Chef Cooking Class

Santa Barbara resident and celebrity chef Cat Cora is opening up her kitchen to you while in quarantine.

Every night at 5 p.m., the first female Iron Chef goes live on Instagram and prepares some of her favorite meals. Sometimes, her famous friends pop up on her lives, including Lance Bass from NSYNC.

Cora said we are preparing food now more than ever and she's offering tips on how to cook on a budget, and use what's in your freezer.

Cora said it's important to her to bring comfort to the community during the COVID-19 crisis.

Virtual Spa Day

Summerland Salon and Spa is doing virtual tutorials for clients on Zoom.

Stylists are teaching clients how to style their hair so they look good for their own Zoom meetings and social media, offering tips and tricks of the trade.

Blondes unable to get their highlights are learning how to hide their roots that are growing in.

The salon in Summerland is also doing virtual facials and brow grooming.

Stylists said they want to help men and women feel normal during quarantine.

Summerland Salon and Spa owners are also asking the community to nominate an essential worker to win a spa day once the salon is back open.

Couchella

The popular music festival Coachella was supposed to happen in April, but was cancelled because of the Coronavirus.

California Lutheran University's student run radio station, iCLU Radio put on a mini concert on Instagram Live calling it "Couchella."

The set was hosted by professor and DJ Spencer Fischer.
