Re-elected Congressman Carbajal Shares To-Do List For Democratic Party

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) – Rep. Salud Carbajal talked about winning his re-election campaign and what's next following a night of celebrating with fellow Democrats.
The Congressman scheduled a morning call online to take questions from local journalists.
He spoke about Sable Offshore that has restarted oil and gas production off the Gaviota Coast in Federal waters.
"I intend to use every avalanche tool from committee hearing and subpoena to the appropriations process to combat Trumps corruption and abuse of power such as the forced restart of the Sable pipeline here in my district," said Carbajal.
Members of the Santa Barbara County Republican Party don't consider is a wise idea.
"I think using one's pulpit to go after a private company that is operating legally is really a bad look, I mean this company is trying to produce oil here on the Central Coast, do it safely, do it environmentally," said James Fenkner, stocks analyst.
The Congressman, who is a former Marine, also said on Election Night and again on the call that he would like to work to impeach Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of War.
He questioned Hegseth during a recent hearing.
"The one individual I think is going to be impeached, no matter what, is Secretary Hegseth that is one impeachment that I'm going to be supportive of and others are supportive of as well," said Carbajal.
He said it is important to remember that the House impeaches, but the Senate convicts and as super majority is needed to do so.
Some Republicans don't think voters want that.
"I don't see how it is going help the Democrats to engage in that willy-nilly now that they have the chance to do so, the temptation is great, but I think it is something that is going to bite them later,' said Fenkner.
Carbajal also talked about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He said wants to prevent ICE officers from terrorizing local communities.
"Republicans and Trump funded ICE in advance for 3 years, I can guarantee you that is something that we are going to be going after and making sure that we redirect that money to programs that address housing, gas, childcare, healthcare all those issues that are important to working middle-class families," said the Congressman.
But, he said a majority of the his focus will be to uplift families struggling with the cost of living.
Following his party's victories from coast to coast, Carbajal heard mixed messages coming from the White House.
He heard President Trump talk about working with Democrats and talking about his veto power.
The Congressman, who has been in the House for about a decade, will be able to choose from a number of committees.
He plans to return to Washington, D.C. on Monday.
