Voters tire of Election Mail and Texts

Tracy Lehr / KEYT

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) There is at least one issue most voters can agree on.

Many feel inundated by election mail and texts.

The flyers can add up, especially if an address has more than one voter at the home.

One former postal worker said it is good for the United State Postal Service.

The USPS reported dealing with 3.3 billion pieces of election mail in 2024 during the Presidential Election and that number could be higher with all the close races nationwide during the Midterms.

Many registered voters said they are ready for it to stop after Election Day.

Voters complained about text messages, too.

One said he replied stop to the texts, but still got them.

"I voted and I really, you get really tired of all this stuff I've been getting text messages, I have been unsubscribing from every one of them for at least six weeks, I got two or three today and even though I unsubscribe they keep coming," said Goleta voter Mark Sherman, " and you know all the same adds that appear on the TV and when I am trying to read the paper on the propositions, someone is spending a lot of money this election."

Even young voters are tiring of texts.

"it is just really annoying because every single time that the election comes around I get messages from people I don't really know that ask for money or to vote for a certain candidate," said voter Avery Blum.

He is ready for them to stop.

"It is also really annoying because it clogs my messages have more important things like my mom or my dad it is very very annoying," said Blum.

Stopping mailers may take more effort.

"I don't like mail anyway i like female but not mail but really texting and mail is just too much are we busy all the time with this there is not time to have a good beer," said voter Jorge R., who chose not to give his full name.

One woman said she felt neutral about it.

"It's sometime helpful sometimes not,"said voter Lidia Kravchuk, "Sometimes I look at that if I need it."

Some concerned voters came to county's election office because they didn't get any election mail and they came to get a ballot, too.

On the eve of Election Day the office looked busy all day.

Workers came out to empty what appeared to be a full drop box, leaving room for more ballots.

As for the mail, people said they are likely to put all the mailers in the trash or recycle bin this week.
