SLO County DA announces election fraud charges against John Ruel S. Ambos

CBS LA

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – San Luis Obispo County District Attorney Dan Dow announced election fraud charges against John Ruel S. Ambos, 31, in a press conference Monday morning.

Federal authorities noted 63 suspected non-citizens being registered to vote, beginning a local investigation into the claim last week.

Ambos and six others from Los Angeles County were accused of voter fraud in the press conference Monday by U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli.

Dow said he filed charges of voter registratino fraud, prejury and fradulent voting against Ambos after accusing Ambos of registering to vote in August 2016.

This registration came despite Ambos knowing he was ineligible, according to Dow who later said Ambos committed perjury by declaring "I am a U.S. citizen," on the voter registration form.

Ambos's fraudulent voting came in the September 2021 gubernatorial recall election when he cast a ballot, according to Dow.

Dow also mentioned a separate investigation after referrals from the SLO County Clerk-Recorder's Office over voter eligibility and registration violations alongside 16 other pending voter fraud cases.

The SLO County Counsel released the following response after rejecting federal prosecutors' request to set aside the 63 vote-by-mail ballots:

"The list you have provided of “suspected” non-citizen voter registrants does not include sufficient individualized evidence to support a determination that any particular registered voter is in fact ineligible. If you have additional individualized information concerning voter eligibility … The registrar is willing to review that information and reconsider your request. "

Dow mentioned to Your News Channel that Ambos's name specifically came from the list of 63 names provided by the Department of Justice and that the 16 pending cases are also from said list.

Dow also told Youre News Channel that the other referrals from the Clerk's Office are not as close to a filing decision while continuing the investigation into the remaining list of names from the 63 provided.
