Passenger Dies and Driver Hospitalized After Single-Vehicle Crash on State Route 41

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – A 42-year-old woman has died and the driver transported to a local hospital after a single-vehicle collision on State Route 41 northeast of Atascadero Tuesday night.

On Sep. 8, around 10:08 p.m., officers responded to a single-vehicle crash off of State Route 41, south of Rocky Canyon Road, northeast of Atascadero city limits stated a press release Wednesday from the California Highway Patrol-Templeton Area (CHP).

Investigators determined that a 42-year-old Ceres woman was driving a black 2003 Mercedes ML500 southbound on State Route 41 when, for still-unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled across the roadway and down an embankment before colliding with a concrete drainage wall detailed the CHP.

The 42-year-old driver and a 42-year-old female passenger were removed from the vehicle and transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center for further medical treatment noted the local law enforcement agency.

The passenger in the collision later died from her injuries at the hospital and her identity is being withheld pending the notification of her next of kin shared the CHP.

According to the CHP, alcohol nor drugs are currently suspected to have been a factor in the fatal collision, but the investigation remains open and ongoing.
