Guadalupe’s New Las Mujeres Park Is Open For Community Ahead Of Forecasted El Nino

GUADALUPE, Calif. (KEYT) - Guadalupe's new skate park officially opened to the public last week, even though there is still some work being done.

City leaders say opening the park early gives the community a chance to enjoy it before the coming winter months predicted to be overshadowed by El Niño.

Guadalupe city leaders cut the ribbon at Las Mujeres Park on Friday, welcoming the public to enjoy the brand-new facilities.

Checkers tables, exercise equipment, a playground, and a basketball court surround the highly anticipated skate park.

The latest Prop 68 project, funded through the California Natural Resources Agency, the park aims to protect, restore, and enhance Guadalupe's cultural community and natural resources.

City leaders say the park was named Las Mujeres in honor of the women and mothers of the community.

Some fences will remain in place for a couple more months as the grass takes root, but city leaders say the park is open for the community to enjoy.

City administrator David Trujillo says the park is in the heart of Guadalupe, having the potential to enhance connection with neighbors from opposite ends of town.
