Procession held for fallen Oxnard police officer
OXNARD, Calif. - A procession was held Friday for an off-duty Oxnard police officer who was killed in a crash earlier this week.
Officer Nathan Martin, 45, was killed Wednesday when his motorcycle was cut off by a tractor-trailer. The crash happened around 4 p.m. on 3rd Street between Marquita and Campton, near Colonia Park.
On Friday, Martin's body was escorted by police officers to the Conejo Mountain Funeral Home in Camarillo.
Community members lined the streets along the way to pay tribute to the fallen officer.
Martin was the school resource officer for Hueneme High School and a 20-year veteran of the Oxnard Police Department. The crash happened just about a mile away from the police station.
Grief counselors were on hand at the school Thursday to help students coping with the loss.
Students also honored the fallen officer by placing flowers in his parking spot on campus.
Martin is survived by his wife and three children.
