Crews Extinguish 26-Acre Vegetation Fire at Northern Vandenberg Space Force Base Thursday

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. – Fire teams put out a 26-acre vegetation fire at the northern reaches of Vandenberg Space Force Base along Orion Road Thursday.

According to a spokesperson on behalf of Vandenberg Space Force Base, the fire was first spotted around 3 p.m. and the base initiated a mutual aid request with local fire response agencies for the fire located in the northern portions of the base.

No evacuations of personnel were necessary, but on-base traffic was restricted added Vandenberg Space Force Base.

The exact cause of the flames is currently under investigation shared Vandenberg Space Force Base.

A plume of smoke was seen from nearby Highway 1 and the Santa Barbara County Fire Department provided assets to assist in the response at the federally-managed lands.
