Grapevine closure possible this week as storm moves in
TEJON PASS, Calif. - Brace yourself for another traffic headache.
Caltrans said Wednesday the grapevine could end up closing Thursday night because of the incoming storm, which could mean increased traffic on Highway 101 through Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
Rain is in the forecast for the Central and South Coasts and forecasters say snow levels could drop to the 3,500 foot level at the Tejon Pass.
Caltrans says the snow will likely impact Interstate 5 through Gorman and Lebec. The agency said drivers should plan for alternatives in case the grapevine is closed.
Last month, the grapevine was shut down late Christmas night, crippling the post-holiday travel rush for about two days. Drivers were forced to take Highway 101 to get around the closure, causing drive times to quadruple in some spots locally.
