South Coast residents speak out with resolutions for the government in 2020
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - It's been a week of celebrations, champagne, saying so long to 2019 and setting goals for 2020.
The New Year's Eve parties and music is fading away but the resolutions are still fresh.
We have our own... but what would you suggest your government focus on.
We asked some local residents.
One pressing topic is dealing with the homeless.
"We need to address our housing shortage. Homelessness is clearly the number one issue facing our government at every level. It is across the nation.  I just went on a cross country trip,  cross country and back, and I can tell you it is not just Santa Barbara that deals with it, it is everywhere." said Darcel Elliott in front of the downtown Post Office.
Another resident, Susie Hoke said, "and I think we need to take a look at what we are doing to help these people and also to bring more focus on mental health and what we offer as a state to these people who are in dire need of mental health (care)."
One person had a simple message for the President when it comes to social media.
"Just one for Trump , there's a reason why we have a press secretary, stay off Twitter stay off Facebook," said Travis Guttlob.
When it comes to elections this year and also immigration, one resident Tommy Gordon, told us, "give all people the right to vote. Allow the Latinos to come back across the border we need their help."
One resident said she sees issues locally that have impacts here and across the country.
"For our local government take a moment and take a step back look and see what serves all of us here there are a lot of people who are underserved in our community and I think that we would all benefit from more attention placed there. On a much larger level tell the truth have consequences for bad behavior," said Susie Hoke.
One interesting timeline for 2020 is already present, and can send a message with a vote because ballots for the March primary will be going out in just one month.
