Santa Maria Empty Bowls returns to SM Fairpark
One of the most popular fundraising events of the year in the Santa Maria Valley returns Wednesday at the Santa Maria Fairpark with the 18th Annual Santa Maria Empty Bowls.
The event raises money for the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County and its various programs to fight hunger and malnutrition in the community.
The unique event features a variety fresh soups and fresh baked breads made and donated by local restaurants, hotels and other organizations.
The soups are served in hand-crafted, ceramic bowls made and donated by other local groups, schools and artists.
With a donation, attendees choose a bowl they want to use fo their meal and then take the bowl home as a souvenir and reminder of the purpose of the event to secure health food for people in the community.
The Foodbank of Santa Barbara County says it provided food to 190,000 people in the county in the past fiscal year with more than 42,000 of those children.
Nearly 80 percent of those served by the Foodbank live in northern Santa Barbara County.
Because of the popularity of the Empty Bowls event, there will be three servings this year, 11 a.m., Noon and 1:00 p.m at the Santa Maria Fairpark.
Tickets are available online at www.foodbanksbc.org/events or by calling (805) 967-5741, ext 306.
